Clarke Central High School 2008 alumnus Erica Malagón was inducted into the Athens Athletic Hall of Fame at the University of Georgia’s Continuing Education Center on Oct. 11.

Erica Malagón-Blackwell was a member of the Athens Bulldog Swim Club from 1996 to 2012. As a member of the Athens Bulldogs she was coached by Jonathan Foggin and Harvey Humphries. Between 2004 and 2008, Malagón-Blackwell won a total of eleven Georgia Swimming state titles, competing in the 100, 200, 400, and 500 freestyles, and the 400 individual medley for the Athens Bulldogs. She swam for Clarke Central High School from 2004 to 2008 and won three Georgia High School State Championship titles in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle events. Malagón-Blackwell swam for the University of Georgia from 2008 to 2012 with coaches Harvey Humphries and Jack Bauerle, where she earned All-American Honorable Mention Honors and was a member of the 2009 NCAA (Runner-up) National Team, and three-time SEC Championship Teams. She competed for Club Natación Palma in Spain where she won several Spanish National Championship titles on relay teams. She completed her swimming career at the 2012 US Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska. At UGA, Malagón-Blackwell received the Marilyn Vincent Scholar Athlete award for the female student-athlete graduating with the highest cumulative GPA in the UGA Athletic program, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Cell Biology and a B.A. in Spanish. Malagón received her medical degree from the Northwestern University School of Medicine and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Society in 2018. She is completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
