Students and staff were evacuated at approximately 1:30 p.m. due to a suspected gas leak near the greenhouse on campus, an evacuation that Nealy believes CCHS has prepared students well for future drills. “I think (this evacuation) has been very effective, everybody was cooperative. Once they heard (it was) something real, they went and did what they were supposed to do,” Nealy said. “(This) is very similar to what a fire situation would be. The only difference is we didn’t delay in the classroom because we knew it was urgent. Usually, we have the safety concern of making sure there’s not a shooter in the building who pulled the fire alarm. We knew this was real.” Photos by Peter Atchley
