Stories of Women’s History Month 2025

A graphic shows nine of the ODYSSEY Media Group’s stories about women and women’s history in the Athens Community from the past month. Patricia Richards, the Director of the University of Georgia’s Institute for Women’s and Gender Studies has found that Women’s History Month is an important acknowledgement of the struggles certain members of society have faced and overcome. “Women’s contributions have tended to be overlooked over the course of history, but I think (the celebration is) more than that, as well. Despite advances that have been made towards gender equality — not just among women and men, but for people of all genders — we still don’t live in a society that is (truly) equal,” Richards said. “So, I think that Women’s History Month both recognizes and celebrates the contributions of women, but is also a reminder of the ongoing struggle toward equality for all genders.”

The ODYSSEY Media Group has compiled nine of their stories from the past month about women and women’s history in the CCHS and Athens communities in honor of Women’s History Month.
