The Athens Rock Lobsters, Athens’s new professional hockey team, beat the Mississippi Seawolves 3-2 in their home debut at the new Ford Akins Arena on Dec. 13. The game was preceded by a ribbon cutting and appearance from local Athens band the B-52s, but the on-ice contest was a stop-start, physical affair. “It’s been a long time waiting for it,” Rock Lobsters head coach Steve Martinson said. “Offensively, I didn’t like the first period as much, but I thought we played a real, physical game and I thought the fans responded to it.” Photos by Wyatt Meyer
