In partnership with Universal Pictures’ “Wicked”, Starbucks released Elphaba’s Cold Brew on Oct. 22. The drink has an overpowering but pleasant flavor and an appropriate presentation.
The famous Broadway musical, “Wicked” will make its debut on the big screen on Nov. 22. In partnership with Universal Studios, Starbucks conjured up the new eye-catching drink Elphaba’s Cold Brew.
Released on Oct. 22, the Starbucks Elphaba’s Cold Brew thrills customers with its interesting combination of peppermint cold brew and matcha, but does not offer much balance in flavor.
The drink is available in four sizes and ranges from $5.25 to $5.95, a high but typical price for similar Starbucks drinks However, for those expecting a stronger matcha flavor, the drink disappoints and is not worth the price.

At first glance, customers see the classic Starbucks cold brew topped with a pale green matcha cold foam, a fitting presentation for the Wicked Witch of the West, the main antagonist in “Wicked.” However, this delightful presentation is diminished over time as the coffee and cold foam mix to create a murky, brownish-green appearance.
After the first sip, customers are met with an interesting but somewhat overbearing taste. The peppermint syrup sweetener in the drink delivers a nice contrast with the mellow flavor of the matcha and cold brew, but is wildly overpowering and stifles the flavors of the other elements.
Even though the matcha flavor is lacking, the pleasant texture contributes to the drink overall. Additionally, despite the overbearing peppermint flavor, the drink still offers a seasonally appropriate taste.
Overall, the Starbucks Elphaba Cold Brew is an exciting menu addition with a delightful flavor but has some overpowering flavors. The peppermint cold brew and so-called matcha flavor isn’t your standard Starbucks combination, but is worth trying.

On Oct. 22, Starbucks released Glinda’s Pink Potion refresher to celebrate the upcoming movie “Wicked”. The drink offers a good balance, but doesn’t have the best balance of flavor.
To celebrate Universal Pictures’ revamped production of the musical “Wicked,” coming to theaters on Nov. 22, Starbucks released Glinda’s Pink Potion refresher on Oct. 22.
Glinda’s Pink Potion offers a delightful sweet and creamy refresher, yet may not be very appetizing to all patrons. At first glimpse, the drink, which ranges in price from $5.45 to $6.95 depending on the size, has an appetizing pastel pink color that fades into the white cold foam at the top, representing the pink dresses Glinda, the ruler of the Quadling Country South of the Emerald City, wears in the musical.
However, the coconut milk creates a grainy texture when not mixed thoroughly, giving the drink an unappealing look. Furthermore, for those expecting the bright pink drink with a layer of colorful sprinkles as displayed on the menu, they will be disappointed after giving it a mix.

When mixed, the coconut milk helps give a creamy texture to the beverage, as does the non-dairy cold foam. The cold foam provides a nice taste of strawberry that adds more to the fruitiness of the base along with the scoop of freeze-dried dragon fruit.
Altogether, despite its flaws, Starbucks’ Glinda’s Pink Potion refresher offered a dominance of the freshness with the mango dragonfruit flavor, while still having a great balance of the sweet coconut milk and strawberry.
