The CCHS Media Center is preparing to host the CCHS community for their very own Glads Run 5K on Saturday, Nov. 9.
On Saturday, Nov. 9, the Clarke Central High School Media Center will host the first annual Glads Run 5K.
The Glads Run 5K will be held on Nov. 9 at 8 a.m., beginning at CCHS’ Bus Loop, and ending on its track. The event is being hosted to contribute to the Principal’s Fund, a deposit maintained by CCHS Principal Dr. Swade Huff, that gives teachers a way to request classroom supplies.
“The start of the race is going to (be in the bus loop). We’re going to run downhill at the start, past the tennis courts, and we’re going to hit some uphills,” CCHS Media Specialist Angela Pendley said. “(The course) makes a circle through those neighborhood streets (near CCHS), and then comes back, and the finish will be on the track.”
A map illustrates the route of the first annual Glads Run 5K, set to be hosted on Nov. 9. For Clarke Central High School varsity cross country head coach Erica Cascio, the event serves as a way to get the community involved in CCHS. “I have volunteered myself and some members of my team, whoever wants to step up and do it, to come out and man a water table, whatever they need us to do,” Cascio said. The money raised through the event will give teachers a special bursary for supplies not funded by other district resources.
“In education, there (are) different pots of money of what you can spend on things. The Principal’s Fund is more flexible for teachers to request (needed materials),” Pendley said.
So far, just under 100 runners have signed up to participate in the 5K, which serves as an opportunity for the CCHS community to get active.
“I think (the 5K is) great because I’ve always thought that 5K’s were fun community events,” Cascio said. “I’m excited to have one at the school. Hopefully, it will be something that we do all the time.”
