Clarke Central High School held the Winter Sports Pep Rally, featuring contests, competitions and musical guests, in the Competition Gym on Jan. 19.
Scheduled during fourth period, the rally commenced with a joint band drumline and varsity cheer team performance, which was followed by musical chairs, dodgeball, and several other events until the end of the school day.
“I thought it was a lot of fun. They had a lot of good activities,” English department teacher Mark Moore said. “Whoever planned it, thought it (through), it went from one activity to the next (and) I think that takes good planning (to have) no dead time.”

Varsity basketball player Marcus Gillespie, a junior, was recognized for scoring his 1000th point as a Clarke Central High School player earlier this season. Gillespie, whose team plays against Cedar Shoals High School in the Classic City Championship on Jan. 20 in the Competition Gym, celebrated his accomplishment with a victory in musical chairs.
“I liked the activities, but they could do a little better on the music,” junior Harper Dean said. “The musical chairs (was my favorite activity) because it was a really fast-paced competition.”
CCHS Junior Class President Aniyah Buckley emcees the Winter Sports Pep Rally on Jan. 19. Along with her fellow Student Government Association members, Buckley planned the pep rally and was overall pleased with the result. “I seriously love this pep rally. I think everyone showed a lot of school spirit,” Buckley said. “I will say that the junior class was a little too quiet for my liking, embarrassed me a little bit (as) I am the Junior Class President. However, it did go really well.” Photo by Aza Khan
