CCHS’ Fine Arts Night was held on Nov. 16 in the E.B. Mell Lobby and Auditorium from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Clarke Central High School held its Fine Arts Night which included live musical performances, visual arts displays, and performances from the drama department on Nov.16 in the E.B. Mell Lobby and Auditorium.
The CCHS fine arts department organized the event, which began with a showcase of the visual arts pieces in the E.B Mell Lobby. For the rest of the night, music and theater students performed in the E.B Mell Auditorium, including intermissions for attendees to view the art displays.
“We were so lucky to have many different styles and genres represented: piano, guitar, chorus, orchestra,” Kang said.“I just loved the combination of the visual art with the performing arts. It made it so special.”

Senior and ceramics student Mya Sims made a cake for her display and thought the night gave students recognition they would not have received prior to the event. “(My display) was a ceramic cake. It was a project reflecting on past memories and I did a pink birthday cake because it reminded me of birthdays growing up,” Sims said,”(Fine Arts night) gives students a creative outlet as well as showcasing other people’s works who have not been shown before.” Photo by Aza Khan
During Fine Arts Night, junior and orchestra member Aidan Woodward performed an ensemble bass piece with fellow student AJ Moore. Later in the night they performed “Dream a Little Dream with Me” by The Mamas and the Papas and “Wild World” by Cat Stevens on guitar.
“(Fine Arts Night) has been a great opportunity to get some time on stage and perform for other students,” Woodward said. ”To me, it is a great way to connect with these students and hear them do what they like and what they enjoy.”
Ceramics student Mya Sims, a senior, enjoyed the night and felt that it allowed her to enjoy forms of art that she previously would not have been exposed to.
“(Fine Arts Night) was very fun, very exciting,” Sims said. “I got to see other things I’ve never seen before like piano performances and as well as the improv group which I really enjoyed.”

Fine arts department co-chair and orchestra director Dr. Eunice Kang believed that the night granted students an opportunity to express themselves through their art and creativity. “(Fine Arts Night) really reflects the artistry of our students and how expressive and creative they are,” Kang said. “They can be very successful academically but also expressive emotionally and artistically.” Video by Daniel Cruz
CCHS fine arts department teacher Heather Garland was satisfied with the event and feels that it is important as it allows for student’s work to be appreciated by fellow peers and the community alike.
“I think it’s really important for the community to see what the kids are doing within these walls. We don’t have a whole lot of opportunities to get our artwork out there. It’s a way to bring everybody together and celebrate everything that these students do,” Garland said. “They’re so talented and so amazing, they really inspire me every day, and to share that with the greater community and their families is just really special.”
