Scott felt confident going into Thursday’s games against Heritage High School and Flowery Branch High School due to preparations made ahead of these matchups. “We’ve played (Heritage High School) before, so I felt like we were prepared for Heritage. However, Flowery Branch has a completely new look of their team. We were able to see them a little bit during preseason at camp but as you saw, they had a lot of hype and they played really well together as a unit,” Scott said. “My biggest goal was: let me make sure my front row is just as tall and competitive.” Photo by Aza Khan

Clarke Central High School’s varsity volleyball team pulled off two wins after facing regional opponents Heritage High School and Flowery Branch High School at home, winning 2-0 in both matches, increasing their current winning streak to four games. Additionally, CCHS held its annual Senior Night celebration between the matches.
The victories tonight leave the Gladiators on track to have a season with a win percentage over .500, a feat that has not been accomplished since the 2014-2015 season. After Thursday night’s victories, the team is now 13-10 overall and 2-2 in Region 8-AAAAA games.
“I’m so proud of these girls. They work extremely hard. They get up early in the morning for practice and I’m just really proud that they locked in and they took care of two big region games. It was a great celebration for our seniors,” CCHS varsity volleyball head coach Stacey Scott said.

CCHS served first against HHS in an eventful first set where CCHS maintained an early lead eventually winning 25-14. In the second set, CCHS held their opponents to single digits as the Gladiators came out on top, winning the set 25-9.
“I think we had a lot of good communication. The backer was talking. I was talking, everyone was talking which really helped,” CCHS varsity volleyball setter Caroline Orbock, a senior said.
The first set against FBHS began similarly, with CCHS taking a 6-0 lead before the Falcons responded with six points of their own. Once again, the Falcons’ early comeback wasn’t a problem for the Gladiators, as they managed to come out on top with a 25-16 victory, followed by a 25-18 second-set victory to secure the overall win.
“It was not our best. I think they’re capable of a lot more than they showed. I think a lot of the points that were scored against us were on errors for us,” FBHS varsity volleyball head coach Abbie Kenyon said.
In between matches, seniors on the CCHS varsity volleyball team were recognized in the school’s annual Senior Night Ceremony, where they were honored by families and fans alike.
“(I felt) excited (going into the game). I was more excited about just for Senior Night itself than the game really,” CCHS varsity volleyball libero Sadie Eubanks, a senior, said. “The excitement for the game and just wanting to win for the seniors really helped everyone put it through.”
