Going into the fourth game of their season with an 0-3 record , CCHS’ football C-team looks to clinch their first victory of the season against Oconee County High School.
After a 28-0 loss to Buford High School at home on Sept.14, the Clarke Central High School C-team football players and coaching staff alike look to improve both sides of the ball to gain their first victory of the season.
The team will play against Oconee County High School at OCHS on Sept. 21 at 5:30 pm. CCHS C-team football head coach Rodney “Boss” Bailey believes there are opportunities for improvement in preparation and effort.
“(We have to improve) upfront more than anything, tackling on the defense, team tackling, that’s an effort thing, just tackling as a group,” Bailey said. “Offensive line gotta push so the running back can run and move the ball.”

CCHS C-team starting cornerback Stanford Mitchell, a freshman, also believes that improvements on defense will help the team secure a win over OCHS.
“(The defense needs to improve on) tackling, watching the ball (and) getting off blocks,” Mitchell said. “(We feel) pretty good but we still got some things that we need to improve upon.”
Regardless of their losses in the previous three games, Bailey believes that the team needs to improve their mindset ahead of their remaining matchups against OCHS, Gainesville High School, and Cedar Shoals High School.
“It’s all about what kind of mentality you gotta have. You might take some losses, but you’re not a loser. So don’t have a loser mentality and just throw in the towel and be like, ‘Oh, well, we suck,’” Bailey said. “You can say, ‘Well, look at the bright side of things that we improved in that game that we lost.’ (The) record don’t always show how good you are.”
