Taylor Swift’s new album “Midnights” is the first album containing all new songs of Swift’s to be released since 2020. Despite feeling similar to previous albums, “Midnights,” which dropped on Oct. 24, is a worthy addition to the Swift collection.“‘Midnights’ delivers thoughtful lyrics and a story in each song which will not disappoint listeners,” Viewpoints Editor Janie Ripps wrote. At midnight on Oct. 21, Taylor Swift released “Midnights,” her first new album since 2020 and one listeners will not want to miss.
From debut album, “Taylor Swift” to “1989” and “Folklore,” Taylor Swift fans have heard the artist’s vocal evolution from country to pop.
Released on all streaming platforms on Oct. 21, Swift’s newest album “Midnights,” showcases Swift’s powerful vocals in her first new music release since 2020. The album delivers thoughtful lyrics and tells a story in each song, which will not disappoint listeners.
“Midnights” tells the story of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout Swift’s life. The majority of the songs in the album, including “Midnight Rain” and “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” tell the story of romance and falling in love.
Prior to its release, “Midnights” was anticipated to be similar to the pop style Swift had in albums such as “1989,” “Reputation” and “Lover.” However, the clear and calm voice of Swift reflects more recent albums such as “Folklore,” “evermore” and “Red (Taylor’s Version).”
The songs are extremely similar to these recent releases, providing very little variety. Some may enjoy this style, but “Midnights” is not the fresh new music fans may have been wanting.
Swift has been a constant in the music industry for almost 20 years, but the more music she releases the more generic it feels. Unfortunately for listeners, “Midnights” is exactly what was expected with nothing new to offer.
While Swift also mentioned a collaboration with singer Lana Del Ray before the release of “Midnights,” “Snow On The Beach (feat. Lana Del Ray)” barely includes Del Rey. With only her background vocals in the piece, fans may be extremely disappointed considering how anticipated this collaboration was.

Regardless, Swift still manages to create songs that will appeal to listeners, especially loyal fans. Beautifully sung, listeners will be up past midnight listening to “Midnights” by Taylor Swift.
