Interim College Adviser Brionna Johnson points at the website link seniors can use to RSVP to the “‘22 and Through” event in her office in the Administrative Suite on April 21. The event has been designed to celebrate all seniors’ post-secondary plans, not just those attending college next year. “We put a big emphasis on not just celebrating students who are headed to college, we’re celebrating every student that has a plan. So students who are headed to the military or the workforce, we’re celebrating y’all too,” Johnson said. Photo by Isabella Westrich
Interim College Adviser Brionna Johnson is helping to plan “’22 and Through,” an event celebrating seniors’ graduation and plans after high school.
“‘22 and Through,” the 2021-22 school year iteration of Clarke Central High School’s annual event celebrating seniors’ graduation, will be held on May 20 in Billy Henderson Stadium. The event is open to all seniors and will include food, games, activities and a Decision Day ceremony that families can attend as well.
Interim College Adviser Brionna Johnson is working with other CCHS faculty and staff members, the Local School Governance Team and the Parent Teacher Student Organization to plan the event.
“We’re gonna have Field Day-type activities for students to do. We’re gonna have someone there with food, like burgers and veggie burgers and all that good stuff. Then we’ll have a little photo booth area (and) some sign-making areas for students to make signs to carry with them during Decision Day,” Johnson said. “We’re just trying to make it a fun day for seniors to come together and enjoy each other’s company. (It’s) really just a time for the seniors to celebrate their graduation and what comes after.”
Senior Mitchell Wilson plans to attend “‘22 and Through” and is looking forward to the Decision Day ceremony.
“For one, (Decision Day) is a chance to meet other people who may be going to (colleges) around the (college) that you’re going to, or (people who are going) to the (college) that you’re going to,” Wilson said. “Also, it’s interesting to know where all your friends are going after high school.”
Johnson believes that celebrating seniors’ graduation is beneficial to students and that “‘22 and Through” is a great opportunity to do so.
“ (Decision Day is) important (to have) to let students know that no matter what they’re choosing to do next year, they are worthy of being celebrated. It’s a big accomplishment to graduate high school and do something after. I think the event helps a lot with building a college-going culture here in Clarke County (School District) and (CCHS) in particular. I’d also say it’s a really good time to just build that community for students.”
