Regardless of the outcome in the first round of the Georgia High School Association state tournament, Chloe Allen, a junior, was proud of her team. “I’m really excited (and) I think all the other girls are really excited, as well, (because) it’s so much fun to look back and see how far you’ve made it,” Allen said. “If we win, then that’s gonna be so insane, (but) if we lose, then we’ve had such a good season. We can all look back on it and just see how good (the season was).” Photo by Aza Khan

The girls tennis team will compete in the first round of the Georgia High School Association state tournament on April 19 at Piedmont Park Tennis Center after placing fourth in the Region 8AAAAA Tournament.
As of April 19, the girls are ranked second in the region with an overall record of 1-1. To assistant boys and girls tennis coach Evan Adams, the tournament is about more than winning.
“Obviously, a win is going to feel fantastic. I don’t want things to end. I’m not trying to rush the season. We have three girls seniors that have been on this team for years that I feel really have put the time and effort in and deserve to keep moving forward,” Adams said. “A loss would obviously feel bad, but no matter when we end, I really can’t wait to get to the banquet to celebrate them.”
According to Chloe Allen, a junior, matches like the GHSA state tournament require preparation and healthy habits.
“I think drinking a lot of water beforehand and then just mentally preparing yourself, and knowing what you’re getting yourself into will prepare you immensely along with practicing your skill,” Allen said. “No matter what the outcome is, you have to remember the good season you’ve had. I’m really thankful for that.”
According to Adams, being consistent and having a positive attitude is vital to having a successful tennis match.
“We went into the region playoffs as fourth in the region and we came out of the region playoffs as fourth in the region,” Adams said. “To me, that just shows how consistent our team is (and) consistency is really a hard thing in high school athletics. Our girls (being) consistent means so much to me (because) it means the years to come are going to be great.”
