Throughout the season, the CCHS junior varsity baseball team has focused on areas of growth during practice to improve their game play. “(We’ve been focusing on) our hitting for sure cause that’s what’s been the reason why we’ve been losing, not putting the ball in play,” Elderts-Walker said. The CCHS junior varsity baseball team will be playing a doubleheader game against Cedar Shoals High School on March 29 and is hoping to walk away with their first win of the season.
After scheduling complications that led to game cancellations on Feb 28 and March 3, Clarke Central High School’s junior varsity baseball team will play against Cedar Shoals High School on March 29 in their last game of the year.
Head CCHS JV baseball coach Tucker Crumpton believed it was important to reschedule the game due to the significance of the CCHS and CSHS rivalry.
“Clarke-Cedar, it’s a huge thing. We really didn’t want to leave those games off the schedule so those were the main ones we prioritized,” Crumpton said. “(Cedar) worked with us trying to find a good day, we worked with them (and) we finally found a day. It’s always fun to play your crosstown rival.”
The team’s last region game was a doubleheader against Stephens County High School on March 24. While CCHS lost, Crumpton noticed an improvement in their playing from previous games.
“The first (game) went about how I expected it to go. Pitching struggled a little bit to start off with and kind of put ourselves in a hole but hitting was better. Still not good enough to win but the first game was all around a very clean game. (There were) not too many errors, good defense, but we ended up losing four to zero,” Crumpton said.
Looking towards the doubleheader at CSHS, Crumpton hopes that the game will have a positive outcome.
“(We’re looking forward to) the opportunity, hopefully, for a win. That’s kind of weighing on all of us this year, not having (a win) yet. I’m also excited for some other kids to get an opportunity to play,” Crumpton said.

CCHS JV baseball player Alexander Elderts-Walker, a freshman, is happy to have the chance to play with the team one more time, who he has connected with over the season.
“(I’m glad) that we have a game and I get to play with my team again,” Elderts-Walker said. “I got to meet the kids and got to know them a little bit better so I became more comfortable with them and just got to play better.”
