Dr. Garrick Askew, the new CCSD Chief of Operations, will start work with CCSD on March 28.
After three years of work with the Clarke County School District, starting in April 2019, CCSD Chief of Operations Dexter Fisher is retiring on May 31. He will be replaced by Dr. Garrick Askew, who begins work on March 28 after being approved by the Board of Education on March 17.
The Chief of Operations is responsible for leading and managing facilities, transportation, nutrition, technology and safety. Dr. Askew, who started working in education as a science instructor in 2000, has held various positions in education administration.
“Dr. Askew has served as Executive Director of School Operations Support for the Paulding County School District since July 2021 and was Executive Director of High Schools for the district for three years prior to that,” the press release said. “He (also) held other administrative posts in Georgia — including assistant principal at Jefferson elementary and high schools in Jefferson, principal at Anita White Carson Middle School in Greensboro and principal at Yeager Middle School in Douglasville.”

Dr. Askew first came to Georgia when he earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership, Cultural and Historical Foundations of Education from the University of Georgia.
“I am excited to return to Athens in this capacity in the (CCSD),” Dr. Askew said in the press release. “I look forward to working with the team and to providing our community of students with the highest quality of services.”
CCSD superintendent Dr. Xernona Thomas is confident that CCSD will benefit from Dr. Askew’s hiring.
“We are excited to have Dr. Askew come on board our team,” Dr. Thomas said in the press release. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will truly be an asset for our district.”
