Members of the Clarke Central High School track and field team help each other up after warming up in the Billy Henderson Stadium on March 22. According to hurdle coach Joshua Bolton, the team has worked hard to prepare for their upcoming meets, with the McDonald’s Invitational at Apalachee High School coming up next on March 26. “We’ve been really conditioning with the long sprints, and then we’ll work our way down to the short sprints,” Bolton said. “(With) hurdlers we’re practicing our three step technique for the one team, and basically trying to get our hurdlers faster in between the hurdles so we will line up with the sprint guys as well.” Photo by Emily Couch
The CCHS track and field team will compete in a meet at Apalachee High School on March 26, and has been training hard to improve as the season progresses.
On March 26, Clarke Central High School’s track and field team will attend the McDonald’s Invitational meet at Apalachee High School, starting at 9 a.m.
According to hurdle coach Joshua Bolton, the team has been training hard and making a lot of progress throughout the season.
“We had a lot of athletes (set a personal record) so I think the track meet will go really well. We (recently) just tried to work on some technical stuff, work out some kinks here and there, but we’ll be in pretty good shape,” Bolton said.
Sophomore and runner Jaden Cofer has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming meet and is confident in the team’s ability to perform well.

“I’m ready for the (4×100-meter relay race). I think we’re gonna take first place in that one. We’ve been working on our hand-offs, our steps, and then a couple of other things. Doing some stuff to get our knees up or get ready when we’re running,” Cofer said. “I think it’s going well, but we can do way better than we are right now. But we’re a young team.”
Bolton hopes that some of the younger team members will begin to step up as leaders, creating a more cohesive team chemistry for the future.
“(Team morale) is pretty good. We’re trying to develop some more leaders. We have a young team, so if we can find some guys who can step up and be a leader, that’d be amazing right about now,” Bolton said. “Right now we’re trying to do team building things together and basically try to get that chemistry together.”
