I open my bullet journal, the crisp white pages charged with artistic possibility. I flip to the current week and, as I begin to write out the day’s tasks, I am calmed by a renewed sense of peace for my future.
What first intrigued me about the bullet journal method of planning, tracking and organizing one’s life lied in the captivating art and aesthetically pleasing layouts that flooded social media. It was also the impassioned and motivating online community who love bullet journaling and seek organized and creative systems for planning out their lives.

ODYSSEY Lead Copy Editor
Each week, I start a new page to keep up with daily tasks, along with other lists, events and notes, unclogging my mind of any stressful thoughts about school or extracurriculars.
By incorporating art and creativity into each page, I see each week as a new artistic adventure of colors and doodles that allows me to escape from everyday stress and keep up with my journal and organization.
Bullet journaling has given me a place to keep track of my upcoming tasks consistently. This has allowed me to visualize the days, weeks and months ahead of me and assume more control over how I spend my time.
Whenever I become overwhelmed with a school project or task for an extracurricular, I sit down with my bullet journal and plan out how I will accomplish my goal. Taking time to split up large tasks into smaller, more accomplishable steps changes my mindset — it makes me feel like I can accomplish anything I put my time into. Incorporating the creative aspects that bullet journalling offers makes me enjoy the planning process even more.
Bullet journaling has freed up my mind for other thoughts instead of constantly trying to keep all my tasks in my head. It has changed my perspective of the future. Now, I don’t see it as something out of my reach — I have control over what happens next. With a pen and my journal, I am at peace.
