Former residents of the Linnentown neighborhood speak on a panel to Clarke Central High School faculty and students on Feb. 19 in the CCHS Media Center. As a result of the Federal Urban Renewal Program in the 1960s, Liennentown families were displaced from their homes. Following their displacement, student housing for the University of Georgia was created in the place of their neighborhood. “I want (people) to know that urban renewal and the University of Georgia targeted our community,” Linnentown resident Hattie Whitehead said. “Because of the location, which was right down the street off of Baxter, (UGA) wanted this land for dorms. Our land was basically taken from us.” Photo by Luna Reichert
