The Clarke Central High School varsity volleyball team plays Cedar Shoals High School on Sept. 26 in the New Gym. Head varsity volleyball coach Stacey Scott believes that the team is doing great, but there are still things to improve. “(We need to) make sure we stay consistent on defense and ensure that we are disciplined on the serving line and give at least two serves in each rotation,” Scott said. The Clarke Central High School varsity volleyball team will play at Johnson High School against the Knights on Oct. 1.
The Clarke Central High School varsity volleyball team will travel to Johnson High School in Gainesville, Ga, on Oct. 1 to play their fourth region match of the season. Region matches determine if a team makes the playoffs.
“(Johnson) actually isn’t ranked right now. They have the same regional record as we do: 1-2 in the region. It’s really important for us to beat them,” CCHS head varsity volleyball coach Stacey Scott said.
Scott expects JHS to be a tough match and thinks that the Knight’s style of play will make the game competitive.
“Johnson’s players are strategic. They’re not super tall or athletic, but they take their time and make sure they place the ball on the court so that they’re able to pick up an easy point,” Scott said.
CCHS sophomore and varsity volleyball player Treasa McHugh thinks that CCHS has a good chance to take a victory at Johnson.
“(Johnson is) a decent team, but I think that we can beat them if we’re focused,” McHugh said.
McHugh also believes the team needs to hone in offensively to take advantage of the match.
“I think running a more aggressive offense, we need to work on (that). If we get the chance or have a good pass, (we need to) put it down and just end the play,” McHugh said.
Scott strongly encourages CCHS volleyball fans to travel to Johnson and attend the region game to support the Lady Glads.
“Please come and check us out. On the road, it’s normally pretty dead and our girls feed off of crowd energy. I think that’s why (the Cedar game) was so great. We had a lot of parents and old alumni that came through to show out for their fans,” Scott said.
