Alumni Cookie Dough is a cookie dough outlet located on 480 N. Thomas St. with a unique taste that brings something new to Downtown Athens.
Alumni Cookie Dough is a dessert joint located on 480 N. Thomas St. in Downtown Athens. Having to compete with other Downtown sweet shops, such as Insomnia Cookies, Ben and Jerry’s and Cinnaholic, Alumni Cookie Dough has found a way to stand out amongst the crowd.
The restaurant offers a wide variety of cookie dough flavors, each completely safe to consume, either raw or cooked, because of their ingredients and preparation methods. Alumni use heat-treated flour and pasteurized egg products, eliminating any chance of contracting salmonella.
Cookie dough is not the only product offered by Alumni. The restaurant also serves ice cream and milkshakes. However, because the restaurant only serves traditional ice cream and milkshake flavors, such as vanilla and chocolate, the cookie dough is what causes the restaurant to stand out. Alumni offers a wide selection of cookie dough, with over 12 different flavors of cookie dough to choose from.
The atmosphere was cheery and fun with an attentive staff and many happy customers. However, the dough was underwhelming.
When paying at the counter, the price seemed absurd. Three full scoops of cookie dough will cost customers $7.50. Even though the cookie dough served by Alumni is safe to eat and holds a grainier and lighter composition than store-bought cookie dough, it is just as filling. Most patrons will find it difficult to finish a single scoop.
While a cookie dough and ice cream sundae were more enjoyable than the plain dough, the cookie dough, itself, was still unable to live up to the hype. Patrons will notice that the dough tastes dry, bland and grainy.
Alumni Cookie Dough is a niche restaurant in Downtown Athens. While it is able to stand out amongst the crowd, it was unable to deliver.
