Freshman and girls varsity soccer team member Nyah Carlson talks about how the season is going so far and what she looks forward to as the season progresses.
Staff writer Stacee Dillard: How is the season going so far?
Freshman Nyah Carlson: The season is going great so far and I think we can make the playoffs.
SD: Who was your favorite team to compete against so far?
NC: I loved playing against Madison, because even though we lost, they were just really fun people.
SD: What is your position? Do you like it?
NC: I play holding middle. I like it because it’s a new challenge for me. I’ve never played it before, but it is frustrating because I want to go up into forward and score.
SD: Do you wish you could re-compete against a school? Why?
NC: I wish we could re-compete against Winder Barrow because I think we can beat them.
SD: How is the team preparing for future games?
NC: Our team is working very hard in and out of practice to be the best we can be and that is how we are going to get far.
SD: What is it like being a freshman on the varsity team?
NC: It was really reassuring being a freshman on varsity, because it means I can play and I might have a future in soccer.
SD: What are you excited for this season?
NC: I am just excited to get better and make new friends.
SD: What meet are you looking forward to the most? Why?
NC: I am really looking forward to the Cedar game, because I have a lot of friends on that team. It’ll be fun to play against them instead of with them for once.
SD: What would you say is the most important quality a soccer player should have?
NC: A soccer player has to be disciplined on the field and off. When you step onto the field, you have to forget about everything and just focus on the game. Most of all, you have to know that you and everyone else is going to make mistakes and you just have to learn from them.
SD: What do you think about your teammates?
NC: I love my teammates, they are such amazing and kind people. They’re really good at soccer and so welcoming to newcomers. I love them.
SD: What is your personal goal this season?
NC: My personal goal is to get to be a much better soccer player tactically and technically.
SD: What do you hope the outcome of this season be?
NC: I really hope we win the playoffs and if we don’t, I just hope everyone learned something new and became better people and players.
