The University of Georgia will host an event on Feb. 10 known as APP Day. APP Day’s purpose is to show high school students different pathways to technology-related majors, but those who plan on attending must submit the form (pictured above) to Athens Career Academy counselor Taryn Ellis. “If the student is to be included on this field trip/experience, the field trip experience permission and insurance form must be completed by Feb. 6,” Ellis said in a press release. Clarke Central High School students have been invited to attend the University of Georgia’s APP Day on Feb. 10.
For the first time ever, Clarke Central High School students are allowed to attend a University of Georgia event known as APP Day.
“The University of Georgia office, Microsoft and The Society of Women in Technology invite you to attend the APP Day field trip at UGA on Friday, Feb. 10. We will leave CCHS by bus at 9:15 (a.m.) and be on campus from 9:30 (a.m.) to 12:30 (p.m.),” Athens Career Academy counselor Taryn Ellis said in a press release.
During this field trip, CCHS students will be able to create software for mobile devices, which, according to Ellis, are encouraged to be brought.
“Attendees will participate in several workshops, which will teach students how to build mobile games and applications using their phones, tablets or laptop computers,” Ellis said. “For this year’s events, smartphones are strongly preferred for students to bring.”
This day will serve as an opportunity for students to explore their interests.
“APP Day will expose students to the various routes they can take if they were to choose a technology-related major, such as Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science and other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related fields,” Ellis said. “This will be very stimulative for students.”
Junior Aneena Puthenpura, who takes Advanced Placement Computer Science, is planning on attending the APP Day field trip and says she is eager to immerse herself into the technological fields.
“In AP Computer Science, we are always working with computers, but I’ve never really applied the skills I’ve learned in class outside of Clarke Central,” Puthenpura said. “I’m actually pretty excited about going on this field trip, so that I can test my strengths and learn more about this field.”
