The Kardashians are highlighted far too much in today’s society, when in reality, they’re just regular people surrounded by fame.
Despite the popular misconception of the Kardashians only being famous due to the release of Kim’s sex tape, the Kardashians were born into fame. Caitlyn Jenner, formerly known as Bruce, was an Olympic gold medalist, Robert Kardashian was an attorney for the controversial O.J. Simpson trial and the family’s friend group consisted of celebrities like Paris Hilton. Their fame was only magnified when Kim’s sex tape was released.
From there on, they created clothing lines, TV shows and spinoffs, beauty products, apps and made themselves a household name.
They didn’t do much except expand on their careers with the fame they were born into. They may not certainly deserve all the money and fame they were born into, but they did make their own empire.
People complain about their fame and how they have absolutely no talent that mainstream celebrities are normally praised for, but that’s only one small problem.
The bigger problem is they appropriate Black culture and then aspects of Black culture previously criticized and deemed ‘undesirable” by the White mainstream media become praised. When Kylie Jenner began experimenting with lip fillers, there became a nationwide challenge, the Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge, dedicated to her as well as hundreds of makeup tutorials to replicate her look.
Just like plumped lips have been brought into White mainstream popularity by the Kardashians, so have braids. Kardashians didn’t make it a new trend, nor did they make it “attractive.”
“Braids are not new. Black women have been wearing braids for a very long time. Another problem is it became new and fresh and fun, because it was on someone else other than a black woman. You know what I mean? So that is the frustration,” American actress, model, dancer and singer Zendaya Coleman said in a recent interview.
There is way too much emphasis put on the Kardashians and all their products they produce or wear. Everything they do is looked as prominent when they’re really just regular people with fame and money.
Face it, the Kardashian family is far too overrated.
