Director of Bands and Professor of Music at the Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia Cynthia Johnston Turner came to Clarke Central High School on Feb. 4 to help prepare the school’s band students for the Large Group Performance Evaluation, a state-run music festival on Feb. 29.
“I reached out to (CCHS Director of Bands Dr. Robert Lawrence) to see if he wanted any help with his music program, and (to see how) I could help,” Turner said.
Turner provided constructive criticism to the students in the wind ensemble during her nearly two-hour visit.
“We often have clinicians to work with our band program. I instituted this philosophy upon my arrival at CCHS. As a matter of fact, we recently had (a guest) on 16 January, Mr. Nicholas Golding of Jackson Comprehensive High School,” Lawrence said.
