Clarke Central High School provides students with various options for scholarships, and one of the many is The Sussie Scholarship, a scholarship that renews each month.
When students apply for most scholarships, they are told to write essays, have a high GPA and send in an application.
“When we’re talking about colleges that is a good fit, we have to look at all the components that go into that college application: Do we have those tests scores, do we have the GPA, have we done what we needed to do to get letter of recommendations, have we done community service because a lot of our scholarships now are looking at community service hours,” Clarke Central High School counselor Toawondia Underwood said.
But regardless of all that, this scholarship contradicts it all.The Sussie Scholarshipis a new $300 scholarship that is being offered monthly, but only to seniors. All one has to do is post viral content according to the few listed requirements, on the website.
According to the scholarship’s website, The scholarship aims to “help you pay for college by doing something that you already enjoy, and makes the world more fun!”
Senior Angelita Avila believes it is an easy opportunity to get money for college, while having to input little time and effort to complete. She believes it will motivate her to apply for more scholarships.
“I mean this doesn’t include GPA or anything that, like essays or anything so it won’t take up much time, and it’s just really easy to do,” Avila said.
Avila believes creativity plays a prominent factor in submitting applications for the scholarship.
“It’s pretty cool. I really like it a lot, and I mean, it’s just really creative and a good (scholarship,)” Avila said. “And if you’re creative, then you can do it, and you can get money for it. It’s just a good opportunity.”
