Clarke Central and Cedar Shoals High Schools meet for the ninth annual Cedar vs. Central meet. This race will be held on Blacksnake Road at 5 p.m.
“We do the Cedar Central dual meet every year. It is kind of kind of like an unofficial meet,” cross country coach Eric McCullough said. “We just have a long road, and we just run down this gravel dirt road until they reach the end.”
The race is different from others, not only because of the competition, but also the course.
“Last year was fun,” junior Sofia Lopez said. “It is (a different race) just because it is just a straight course, not a two loop run.”
At the race, the two teams tally up the score based on the place each runner comes in.
“Since there are only two teams, the first runner that comes in gets one points, the second gets two and so on. We just tally up those points and the lowest score wins,” McCullough said.
The CCHS boys team aims for a victory, as they have fallen short of in previous years.
“The past couple years, the girls almost always win, but the boys, the past two years they have lost, but they won two years before,” McCullough said.
Overall though, the team is aiming to just make the most of the time.
“It (the race) has always been a kind of rivalry when we meet out in a country on the dirt
road and just run the race,” McCullough said.
