What started as a homemade bakery in Bangkok, Thailand in 2011 has now relocated to Athens, as an Asian-American fusion desserts bakery, with the motive to satisfy one’s sweet tooth.
Sweetie Pie by Savie, an Asian-American fusion desserts bakery, opened on July 6, and is located on 150 E. Whitehall Road. It is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Upon entering, one immediately smells the sweet scent of baked goods fresh from the oven. The bakery has a very homey, cozy feel, with cute decor and a small comfortable space.
Unfortunately, due to zoning laws, the bakery is only allowed to serve take-out and there is not much seating available. The baked goods, however, are ready to serve and can be pre-ordered, which makes Sweetie Pie by Savie a very convenient place to grab a coffee and muffin to-go in the morning.
The bakery offers an assortment of baked goods, which vary day to day, depending on what was baked that morning. These baked goods, including scones, cookies, sweet breads, muffins, pies and cakes.
The bakery is fairly cheap, with small baked goods at about two dollars. Cakes range from $16 to $46 based on size.
All baked goods have a very crisp, fresh taste to them, and if one comes early in the morning, they may even find that their baked goods are still warm.
The blueberry scones and muffins are especially delicious, with a zesty, sweet flavour to them, but the sweetness is not overbearing.
The blueberry coffee cake is perfectly crumbly and sweet, and as the name suggests, goes great with the fresh brew espresso or drip coffee which is served every morning.
Although Sweetie Pie by Savie is probably not something you should be eating every day, it is definitely a great way to treat yourself in the morning, and offers beautiful, elaborate cakes for a special occasion.
