Does this app keep up with the increasingly high quality mobile games on the market or will it Fall Out?
Fallout Shelter is a base management game available for free on both the Google Play Store and the App Store. The goal is to construct a vault for your increasing number of dwellers while gathering resources and items to help the player defend against the creatures of the wasteland. The outside world has been ravaged by Nuclear Bombs so you must keep your vault secure from the outside radiation.
Although Fallout Shelter offers purchases, such as random loot drops and an auto-gatherer, these are not necessary. New rooms and defenses are made immediately, so the game avoids the annoying time-walls, which give you the option of either paying to speed up the construction or waiting a ridiculous amount of time.
The gameplay is simple: assign dwellers to work in buildings to generate resources which are used to sustain your vault and build more rooms. Dwellers gradually appear, so users will have to get used to waiting for a new one before expanding your vault.
There is very little control beyond assigning dwellers and choosing which rooms to construct, so the game is very much designed for you to pick it up every couple of hours. This design choice creates the game’s biggest problem which is the world moves on without you.
Frequently, you will get raided while you’re not playing which will leave your dwellers dead and your room destroyed. This can destroy up to days of building and leave you with so little, that creating a new vault would be the best choice.
The graphics are pleasing, albeit simple. Dwellers maintain a very comic book style look while they operate in semi three-dimensional rooms. The colors pop and make each room instantly look different. There are a handful of innuendos but for a middle-school and high-school audience this has nothing explicit.
Despite all its flaws, Fallout Shelter is worth a shot, but for those that prefer more control prepare for a fair amount of frustration.
Fallout shelter is a base management game set in post apocalyptic america. The App keeps the trademark pip boy from the previous games in the franchise along with the comical art style.
