Junior Kira McIntyre serves the winning point in the Lady Glads’ match against Stephens County High School on Aug. 29. The team won three of their four matches, breaking their four-match losing streak. “They served well today in most of their games. There was one game they had five serving errors, that’s not so good, but they served well (and) they hit well today,” head varsity volleyball coach Ashlee Wegmann said.

Clarke Central High School’s Varsity volleyball team hosted a play day and won three matches on Aug., 29.
The Clarke Central High School varsity volleyball team hosted a play day on Aug. 29 in the New Gym. The Lady Glads played four matches and won three, breaking their four-match losing streak.
“I think they played very well today, we’ve played four games and so we’ve kind of been on a little bit of a losing streak, so today kind of broke our streak,” head varsity volleyball coach Ashlee Wegmann said.
The Lady Glads started the day with a match against Apalachee High School. In the first game, CCHS won 25-21, then Apalachee won the next two games 25-16 and 15-9, winning the match.
“It was big to play Apalachee and to go to three with them. We played the best that we’ve played Apalachee in three seasons today so it was good, even though we lost it was kind of like a win,” Wegmann said.
In their next three matches, CCHS won against Stephens County High School, Athens Christian School and Cedar Shoals High School. Varsity volleyball player Lauryn Waters, a junior, said the team played better than they have all season.
“I think we played really well and it broke a little streak that we didn’t like that was happening, so that was really good that we won three games in a row,” Waters said. “I think this might’ve been the best day we’ve had overall. We all just played really well and our attitudes were just really great the whole day.”
Wegmann said it was a successful day for the Lady Glads.
“They played as a team today, their communication was a lot better today. We still need to work on our defense, it’s still a little lacking, a little slow. (But) we transition better, they did everything that we worked on in practice last week, they responded and really did well today,” Wegmann said.
