Dubsmash is a free app that allows users to send videos of them lip syncing to a famous quote, popular song or sound. It can then be shared amongst friends through social media platforms such as Facebook Messenger.
The app Dubsmash, by Mobile Motion GmbH, is guaranteed to make users laugh. There are more than 30 categories of sounds, quotes and popular songs to chose from. Once users pick their sound they can film themselves for 10 seconds lip syncing to the sound that they have chosen. The recorded sound, or “Dub,” can be shared through Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, a link or through iMessage. Users, also known as Dubbers, can also save their Dubs to their camera roll.
This app is available on Google Play and the App store. The app was relased on Nov. 19, 2014 and can be found on iTunes and the Google play store. Androids have to have the necessary operating system of 4.1 or higher while Apple devices require iOS 7.0 or higher. It has a clean and easy to navigate design with visually pleasing colors. Dubsmash only allows users’ Dubs to only be viewed by the owner and the people they shared their Dubs with. Other people can also see Dubs if the owner published them publicly.
From the Bill Nye theme song to the viral quote, “Ain’t nobody got time for that,” Dubsmash has it all. I thoroughly enjoyed the “Old School” category with it’s throwback pop artists like the Backstreet Boys and the famous quote “Goonies never say die” from the movie the Goonies.
Dubsmash is similar to Snapchat with a limit of 10 second videos and the ability to write text and insert stickers on the completed video. However, what puts Dubsmash apart from Snapchat is the diversity of the things the user can do. There are so many different sounds to chose from that appeal to all personalities.
