I Don’t Like S***, I Don’t Go Outside by Earl Sweatshirt largely talks about his hardships while he brings a slow-paced rap and a jazz-like beat.
Released on March 23, I Don’t Like S***, I Don’t Go Outside is an example of slow beat rap that is relaxing to the listener.
The album starts with the song “Huey”, which is a slow beat song and describes Earl Sweatshirt and how he lost his grandmother. The song ends with about 15 seconds of a simple beat, and no words.
In fact, most songs in this album have a very similar beat, which makes the raps monotonous, yet still meaningful. Almost all the songs include a slow beat at the end. The song “DNA” has a beat going on for over a minute before the track is cut.
As stated, the lyrics mostly describe hardships of Earl. In the song “Off Top”, the lyrics describes himself and how his father wasn’t there, “Never missing dad, never prayed much, right around the same time his grandma drank a bunch.”
Although some tracks on the record describe the hardships that Earl went through, some describe how Earl Sweatshirt overcame them. In the song “DNA”, Earl Sweatshirt describes that he has “No b**** in his DNA” and then says that “I never was defenseless, I stuck to one side and trusted it.”
Despite bringing long instrumental beats at the end of his songs, Earl portrays his struggles and how he overcame them in his powerful new record.
