Freshman Robert Sims talks about the closing season of the ninth grade boys basketball season.
Dalace Thomas: How do you feel about the season coming to a close?
Robert Sims: I enjoyed it. I miss the players and I miss having fun with them, but the season has to come to a close and I really miss it.
DT: Do you think that your team has grown closer over the season?
RS: Our chemistry on the court has become stronger, but off the court we really haven’t focused on becoming a family. I don’t think the season was long enough for us to really bond and become a really close team and become a family. We’re really not that close of a team but we still bond together, and we do get things done. We had a fantastic season.
DT: Do you find that most of your friends are on your team?
RS: I have a couple friends.I grew up with people on the team, but most of my friends don’t participate in athletic sports or anything.
DT: How do you think you did this season?
RS: Pretty good overall. I could have done some stuff better.
DT: Like what?
RS: Like… my rebounding… and my hustle, I didn’t really hustle like I wanted to. I didn’t really have time to focus on conditioning myself as I needed to during the season. We had a really short season, about ten games.
DT: Do you think you have improved this season.
RS: Yes I think I have improved this season with my defense… mostly and, offense some and my driving.
DT: How do you think the team as a whole did this past season?
RS: We were 5-2 this season we only lost twice to one team and we won the championship… I think we did pretty good. It was a little championship in North Oconee that they hosted for us. There were two games and we won both of them. We won the, as you would say, Ninth grade Freshman tournament.
DT: What are your goals in basketball? Do you plan to continue to be on the team?
RS: Yes. I’m keeping that in mind, but I’m also keeping my mind open because i’m not only focused on trying to have a basketball career i’m also focusing on my academics and trying to get an academic scholarship.
