In taking the nation by storm, Trivia Crack has emerged as the top free app on the iTunes App Store.
Trivia Crack, released on May 17, 2014 but recently updated on Dec. 10, is a multi-faceted trivia game developed by the Argentinian company Etermax for a wide audience.
The app, available for iOS users in the App Store as well as Google Play for Android users and the Windows Phone, comes in two versions–one that is a free download in addition to an ad-free version that costs $2.99. Both require a registration in connection to the user’s email.
The game pits the user against opponents that can either be random or friends connected through Facebook. Trivia questions are divided into six categories – Sports, History, Geography, Entertainment, Science and Art. To begin the game, the user spins the wheel that determines which category the question will come from.
When the user answers three questions correctly, or lands on the specially determined section of the wheel and answers right, the user can choose between acquiring a “character” that represents one of the six categories or challenging the opponent for one of their characters. The first person to acquire all six characters wins the game.
Both versions of Trivia Crack are currently atop the App Store charts. Though Etermax’s previous games such as Aworded and FCB Trivia Fans, a soccer-related trivia game in partnership with F.C. Barcelona, have been successful in Spain and Latin American countries, the company has experienced new widespread success in North America with Trivia Crack.
The obligatory decision of connecting to Facebook or providing an email address before being able to play, however, is a turn-off, yet the essence of the app has still captivated users across the country. The initial release of the app contained some bugs and consumer recommendations to various features of the app, but those have mostly been corrected after the Dec. 10 update.
Trivia Crack encapsulates the fun of trivia and other classic games in an easy-to-use and free app–the primary factor in its rise to the pinnacle of app gaming at the moment.
