CooolKey is an app that allows users to customize their iPhone keyboards with either the available designs, or with a personal picture.
Released Sept. 17, 2014, the app came out a day after iOS 8, and was already compatible to it.
This may seem impressive, but the fact that it cannot be used with iOS 7 is inconvenient.
The app is, however, quite intriguing and creates a way to uniquely personalize something that usually isn’t customizable. Each time the keyboard is used, the user can either see a picture of their friends, their pet, a favorite place, any personal picture or a cool design.
When selecting a particular picture, the user can also change the size and shape of the keys on top. Still, having a personal picture as the background of the keyboard can be challenging because it can be hard to see the keys when typing.
Sorry Android users, but CooolKey is only compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPod touches.
However,a common complaint is that the app lacks autocorrect capabilities. When using CooolKey, the autocorrect on the keyboard doesn’t work, so whenever the user makes a mistake while typing, they have to go back and correct it themselves.
Users of CooolKey also have to be careful when switching keyboards. When trying to access emojis by clicking the world button, it is common that the keyboard switches back to normal, which is a frustrating aspect.
The app comes with over 100 designs and animations for the keyboard. There is a wide variety of themes and colors for any personality.
Overall, the app is a new, simple and unique way to customize keyboards and lives up to it’s name, “CooolKey – Keyboard for Color Lovers.”
