With this year’s competition just beginning, the robotics team is ready to build on their success last year. “There are a few fields that want to expose their occupation and this is a way kids can get exposed to it on a high school level. We’ve gotten our game, we’ve sat down, we’ve drawn out some plans, ideas.” robotics adviser and science department teacher Scott Swain said. Photo by Porter McLeod.

On Feb. 8, the robotics team competed at the state competition with a chance to participate in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology Robotics National Championship. The team placed seventh place with the top four moving on to the National Championship.
“Then we went to state, considering we started from almost nothing the year before that, they just did an outstanding job rising to the challenge, and basically we were considered an underdog last year,” robotics adviser and science department teacher Scott Swain said.
After receiving the 2014-15 FIRST Robotics competition details, the team began planning how to construct the robot for the competitions. The team is moving towards drafting the robot on a Computer-Aided Design program.
“We need to get all these computers set up with the actual design program that has the part presets for all of these with the holes and everything,” senior Tomislav Žabčić-Matić said. “So we can realistically model the robot.”
