As part of a three-week lead up to the 2014 Clarke Central High School Prom at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, staff writers share all the tricks of the trade to ensure a memorable event.
1. Sweeten the deal:
You can’t go wrong with sweets. Local stores, like Gigi’s Cupcakes, will sweeten anyone’s day. Remember the way to a person’s heart is through their stomach. A single cupcake costs $3.50 and Gigi’s is located on 296 West Broad St.
2. Tried and true:
Stick to the classics. If it’s worked before, it will work again. The traditional presentation of a single rose to a prospective date, works like a charm.
3. Get Creative:
In case the classic approach doesn’t go as planned, being creative and original leaves a huge impression. Try something fun like “popping” the question inside a balloon. Make it more meaningful by making the balloon his or her favorite color and then put a couple of candies inside the balloon along with the note.
4. If they play on a team:
If they play on a team, write the word ‘prom’ on a sports ball and “throw” the question. This is a great way to work with something you know they have a passion for.
5. Spotlight:
Put on your dancing shoes. Sweep your date-to-be off their feet and turn heads. This works better with a crowd, but it can be more passionate with just the two of you.
6. Fake a proposal
Be cute. Tease your prospective date a little. Get down on one knee and recite something cheesy that sounds like a real proposal, but then switch it up and ask him or her to prom with a note or a symbol for prom. This will be a surprisingly pleasing way to appeal to his or her emotions.
7. Search and you shall find
Create a mini-scavenger hunt. Leave cute little messages with hints. Let the last hint lead to you. This is a great way to appeal to curiosity.
8. I choose you
You could be a little “nerdy,” and go with the Pokemon theme, “I choose you.” Get a Pokéball that will open up and put something about prom inside, casually toss the ball to them. When curiosity gets the best of them, make your move. Ask that person to prom.
9. Burning with passion
Get fancy with candles. This works best during the night. Spell out “prom” in a place where they will definitely see it.
10. Music made
What’s a better way to touch a person’s heart than to sing them a song? Music can go with just about anything. Create a song or play an instrument. If you cannot sing, it’ll be even more endearing because its the thought that counts, plus it’ll be a great memory later.
