Max Brooks, author of World War Z, has brought readers instructions to survive a zombie apocalypse.
The Zombie Survival Guide, released in 2003 tells of very intelligent ways of to live through the apocalypse. The main message this book is that many of the things that do not seem important are most likely the things that can mean life and death in a zombie apocalypse, such as how one should always carry clean water.
The survival guide states that the reason that a human becomes a zombie is because of a virus called Solanum. Solanum affects a human by killing them and then travelling to the brain and destroying the frontal lobe, thus making the human lose all sense of consciousness. This brings out the more primitive side of human nature.
The book also states some very useful tips, the most obvious being to aim for a zombies head when attacking. It also says which shelters would be good to use tells how to fortify your already existing shelter. It explains which weapons are most efficient in the killing of zombies and which ones are the best to always carry around. There is also a series of checklists throughout the novel which give detailed instructions on what you should buy and how to use it.
When readers get to about two thirds of the way through the book, there is a section called “recorded attacks” which contains a few tales of supposed attacks throughout history dating from 60,000 B.C. all the way up to the late 1990’s.
Brooks tells these stories with real life quotes and other things that will make the readers question if these things actually happened or not, either way they are very entertaining. To go along with the Zombie Survival Guide, Brooks made a separate novel called Recorded Attacks which is in comic form based on the tales in this book.
This manual is recommended to those who enjoy the survival horror genre. It is definitely the low price of $11.50 and worth reading. If not anything else this book represents the true nature of all who want to be zombie fighters. This book is guaranteed to give at least a few hours of reading, it is a bit short for a novel but makes up for it by its surprising amount of knowledge. This book was fantastic and is guaranteed to get one into the halloween spirit.
