Released on the infamous date of Friday the 13th, Insidious 2 impresses horror-film fans.
When the first Insidious was released, the film impressed horror-film fans. The movie turned out to be a success, and director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell began creating the sequel. Insidious left many unanswered questions for the perfect segue into the sequel, Insidious 2.
Insidious 2 continues the plot of the Lambert family peacefully living in a nice home, until they are disturbed by a malevolent spirit with only one goal, to possess the body of Dalton Lambert (portrayed by Ty Simpkins). His parents decide to hire Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye), an expert on ghosts and other supernatural phenomenons, to rid them of the ghost. Her solution is to send Dalton’s father, Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson), to the spirit world, where he will set Dalton free from the spirit’s grasp.
However, they are still haunted by the malicious ghost, and the Lambert family is still in danger. When things go out of control once again, Renai Lambert (Rose Byrne) begins looking for answers, so she contacts a few of Elise’s colleagues. As they try to put an end to the Lambert family’s nightmares, they unravel the secret of an infamous yet mysterious killer, the Bride in Black.
The main cast acted their respective parts well. Each actor effectively expressed whom they represented. Lin Shaye, the actress who played the role of Elise Rainier, received a Saturn Award for her acting. The actors became so absorbed by their roles; they seemingly “became” their characters.
Horror-film fans will find Insidious 2 as a diamond in the rough. Unlike the stereotypical horror movie, Insidious 2 actually tries to scare viewers without grossing moviegoers with the endless pools of blood and the dismembering of limbs. It uses other methods, which is surprising, coming from the creators of Saw.
A dark and spooky ambiance hides the many jump-scares accompanied with loud and creepy noises. However, it will only make you jump out of your seat as your heart races, as there are quite a few laughs for those with a varied sense of humor. Overall, Insidious 2 is a horror movie worth seeing, as it has great actors and a bit of humor.
