Kandrisaria Burruss, better known as Kandi Burruss, a star on The Real Housewives of Atlanta released her own spinoff show, the Kandi Factory on Bravo on April 9.
Burruss is better known for stirring up drama on The Real Housewives of Atlanta than for being a Grammy winning songwriter, but in the Kandi Factory Burruss uses her music industry expertise to mentor aspiring recording artists.
Each episode starts with two aspiring artists entering The Kandi Factory to meet Burruss. The aspiring artists range from country singers to rappers, each artist is given a song written for them by Burruss. The artists then go down the production line; makeovers, choreography lessons and a chance to record their song in the studio. After their musical boot camp, the artists perform in a “showcase” in front of a live audience, after which Burruss chooses which artist will get their single produced and released with a music video created by her company, The Kandi Factory.
Each contestant starts out like a lump of clay, then Burruss molds them into what she sees them as, not always to the comfort of the artist. It seems as if the criteria for an artist landing on the show maybe more about the individual’s personal sob story than their actual singing ability.
Not all candy is sweet and The Kandi Factory is certainly sour. The show is just another singing competition flop with little to no talented competitors.
