On Saturday Jan. 12, Clarke Central High School sophomore cellist Tomislav Zabcic-Matic and CCHS senior violist Melody Wauke represented CCHS at the All State Orchestra auditions held in Westminster schools in Atlanta.
Of the two students that auditioned for All State Orchestra, senior Melody Wauke progressed to have a seat on the orchestra.
“Both students are outstanding in their dedication to music and strong work ethic,” CCHS fine arts department teacher Dr. Eunice Kang said.
The All State Orchestra auditions are held annually. Students must progress through two rounds of auditions to be accepted into the orchestra. The first round consists of sight-reading and scales. For the second round, the judges choose four excerpts for the players to practice, and two are selected for the players to perform.
“It is fun meeting new people that are just as passionate about Orchestra as I am,”
Wauke said
Wauke qualified for the 2013 All-State Orchestra for her fifth year and will be attending the program on March 2 in Savannah for three days and will be putting on a show on the third day. Zabcic-Matic was not selected for the All State Orchestra, but he did make it on the Statewide Honor Orchestra which will be held in Roswell, Ga. and begins on April 13.
“My expectations were fully met- students must prepare to the best of their abilities and represent their school with utmost pride and professionalism,” Kang said. “I am so proud of these excellent musicians.”
