Pan up, pan down. No cuts.
Eighty-five minutes of continuous filming, without a break in scenery, leaves you with a lasting feeling of confusion and dizziness. Silent House, directed by Chris Kentis and Laura Lau and released on March 11, failed at being artistic and came out to be more of a distraction to the viewer.
As opposed to the typical thrillers, it is hard to make out what exactly is happening throughout the first 75 minutes of the film. Silent House starts off as a typical horror movie, a bad one at that, but in the last 10 minutes it turns into a psychological thriller. In the beginning, the main character, Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen) is believed to be trapped in a family summer home with an axe murder. But it isn’t until the end of the movie the viewers see the reality behind what was truly happening in the vacation home.
Throughout the film, hundreds of theories seemed reasonable when trying to figure out the ending, but each idea never quite fit. It’s hard to say this movie was enjoyable, but the way the directors tied it together in the end was impressive.
