Growing up in Athens, one of my fondest memories is of the Junkman’s Daughter’s Brother. This large store, located at 458 Clayton St., has been a part of Athens since its opening in 1986.
Popularly called Junkman’s, this store sells anything you could possibly want. It is two stories high and has the widest variety of novelty toys and miscellaneous junk.
On the bottom floor, there are mostly toys, but in the back there are also several different kinds of clothes. When you head towards the top floor, there are many cutouts lining the railing, which feature famous characters from movies, comic books and TV shows.
One f the great features at Junkman’s is the line of posters on the second floor. They feature bands, movies and a random variety of things. They also have a large section with a wide variety of costumes in the back of the top floor.
If you have grown up in Athens, it is likely that Junkman’s has been a place to go. Junkman’s is extremely unique and is just one things that makes Athens what it is.
